Hi enzyme community! I am wondering if anyone knows whether N-acetyl glucosaminidase (NAGase) is involved in the degradation of other compounds besides chitin and peptidoglycan. I am finding very elevated activities of this enzyme in response to protein additions (caesin protein) in a soil microcosm experiment. I haven't been able to find any published research that suggests NAG is involved in peptide degradation, but perhaps I'm not looking in the right literature.
